The Lithuanian accordion quintet
In 1978, an accordion quintet in Vilnius, at that time capital city of the Lithuanian Republic of the USSR, started performing concerts. Through the initiative of Ricardas Sviackevicius, the Concertino ensemble was founded and continued its artistic development under his musical direction and organizability.
From its inception, the ensemble has consisted exclusively of professional musicians who are music students, professional teachers, and winners of national and international competitions. Some of the original members have been replaced over the years; others have been active since the beginning. Today, the Lithuanian Concertino accordion quintet is composed of players Ilma Plungaite, Regina Pancekauskiene, Žana Gumenaja, Rasa Mikiškiene, and Ricardas Sviackevicius.
At the time of the Soviet Union, the ensemble-with its five musicians representative of the accordion and bayan music scene-was the most important and successful music group in the Baltic. Within the USSR‘s numerous countries possessing first-class musicians and ensembles, the Concertino accordion quintet was considered one of the finest.
Concertino is regarded as one of the founders of the accordion chamber music genre in the Baltic. Today, it is one of the most prominent proponents of accordion chamber music internationally.
Shortly after it was founded, the ensemble conducted concert tours at first through the Lithuanian Republic of the USSR, then within the entire Soviet Union, and finally in other socialist countries (1981 in East Germany and 1983 in Czechoslovakia, for example). Early on, the group could be heard and seen in national radio and television. Over the years, it produced a series of recordings. Its first records and music cassettes were produced in the Soviet Union for distribution within socialist countries.
The concert artists achieved their international breakthrough in 1986 when they participated in the Klingenthal Vogtland music festival (at that time in East Germany). There, they were discovered by the young West German music producer Ulrich Schmülling, who made it possible for them to produce their first record in the western world.
After the Soviet Union was dissolved and the Republic of Lithuania became an independent country with professed western orientation, director Ricardas Sviackevicius‘ organizational talent combined with his high musical artistic demands soon promoted the ensemble to appear in various concert halls of the western world. The ensemble enjoyed ever increasing popularity with its audiences.
The five Lithuanian musicians visited France, Germany, and Italy many times. They also travelled to Austria, Belgium, Finland, Great Britain, Luxembourg, Netherlands, and Switzerland as well as eastern European countries. They played many concerts and took part in competitions-always with outstanding success.
Wherever they appeared, they performed in full auditoriums to fascinated audiences. In renowned international competitions, such as the 1990 Premio Internazionale in Castelfidardo and 1992 Alpine Festival in Innsbruck, their outstanding artistry was honored with first prizes.
The ensemble‘s repertoire contains compositions of well known Lithuanian, Russian, and foreign composers from various time periods and with different music styles, many of which ensemble members Ilma Plungaite and Ricardas Sviackevicius have arranged specifically for the quintet. Included in the repertoire are also a number of original works, many of which were written by contemporary composers specifically for Concertino and which are presented by the ensemble with particular engagement.
Recently, the ensemble‘s cooperation with contemporary composing artists is intensifying as it meets with considerable resonance. The Lithuanian accordion quintet Concertino primarily excels through the musical individuality of its players with their specific talents and high artistic maturity-subtle tone, deep stylistic understanding, and sovereign technical playing ability-connected with the capability to perform as a united group convincingly and professionally. This accounts for the ensemble‘s showmanship and dynamic effect comparable to a symphony orchestra, which accounts for its success in 2002, the 25th year of its artistic creativity.Lietuvos akordeonistu kvintetas

Ricardo Sviackeviciaus iniciatyva buvo suburtas ansamblis „Concertino“, kuris jo vadovaujamas pradejo meninio tobulejimo kelia.
Nuo pat pradžiu ansamblyje grojo tik profesionalus muzikantai: akordeono specialybes studentai, akordeono mokytojai ir respublikiniu bei tarptautiniu konkursu laureatai. Begant metams vieni kvinteto nariai keitesi, kiti tebegroja iki šiol. Šiuo metu akordeonu kvintete „Concertino“ groja Ilma Plungaite, Regina Pancekauskiene, Žana Gumenaja, Rasa Mikiškiene ir Ricardas Sviackevicius.
Dar tarybiniais laikais kvintetas akordeono bei bajano muzikos srityje buvo reikšmingiausias ir daugiausiai pasiekes ansamblis Pabaltijyje, o tarp daugybes tuometines Tarybu Sajungos tautu bei respubliku pirmos klases muzikantu lietuviu kvintetas buvo vienas iš geriausiu. „Concertino“ laikomas vienu iš akordeono kamerines muzikos žanro pradininku Pabaltijyje, o šiandien net tarptautiniu mastu yra vienas iš meistriškiausiu šio žanro atlikeju.
Tuoj po ikurimo kvintetas pradejo koncertuoti: iš pradžiu po tuometine Lietuvos respublika, paskui po visa Tarybu Sajunga, o veliau ir užsienio socialistinese respublikose (1981 m. Vokietijos Demokratineje Respublikoje, 1983 m. Cekoslovakijos Socialistineje Respublikoje ir t. t.).
Netrukus kvinteta buvo galima išgirsti bei pamatyti per valstybini radija ir televizija, kur begant metams padaryta daug irašu. Pirmoji garso plokštele bei garsajuostes išleistos dar tarybiniais laikais, taciau jos platintos tik šalyje.
Kelias i tarptautine scena pramintas 1986 m. „Concertino“ muzikantams dalyvaujant konkurse „Vogtländischen Musiktagen“ Klingethalyje (VDR), kuriame juos pastebejo ir kvintetu susidomejo jaunas muzikos leidejas iš VFR Ulrich Schmülling. Jis ir išleido pirma kvinteto garso plokštele Vakaruose.
Ansamblio vadovo Ricardo Sviackeviciaus organizacinis talentas bei dideli muzikiniai-meniniai reikalavimai atvere kvintetui, iširus Tarybu Sajungai ir ikurus nepriklausoma valstybe - Lietuvos Respublika, koncertu saliu Vakaruose duris. Kvinteto populiarumas buvo nepakartojamas. Daugybe kartu penki Lietuvos muzikantai lankesi Vokietijoje, Italijoje, Pranzucijoje, taip pat Austrijoje, Olandijoje, Šveicarijoje, Didžiojoje Britanijoje, Suomijoje, Liuksemburge ir Rytu Europoje. Jie koncertavo ir dalyvavo konkursuose, kuriuose juos visuomet lydejo didžiule sekme. Pilnos koncertu sales ir sužaveti klausytojai likdavo visur, kur tik lietuviu kvintetas išeidavo i scena. Aukšciausi apdovanojimai jam skirti pripažintuose tarptautiniuose konkursuose „Premio Internazionale“ Castelfidardo mieste 1990 m., „Alpenländisches Festival“ Innsbrucke 1992 m. ir kt.
Ansamblio repertuare daug lietuviu, rusu ir kitu užsienio kompozitoriu žinomu kuriniu, priklausanciu ivairioms epochoms bei muzikos stiliams. Visus juos meistriškai kvintetui aranžavo Ilma Plungaite ir Ricardas Sviackevicius. Ansamblio repertuare nemaža ir originaliu kuriniu, parašytu specialiai „Concertino“, kuriuos kvintetas populiarina su ypatingu isipareigojimu. Šis pastaruoju metu suintensyvejes ansamblio bendradarbiavimas su kompozitoriais sulauke atgarsio. Lietuviu akordeonu kvintetas „Concertino“ išsiskiria muzikiniu menininku individualumu, ju specifiniu talentu ir menine branda - subtiliu garsu, tiksliu stiliaus suvokimu, suvereniu technišku grojimu - bei sugebejimu kaip vientisai visumai atlikti kurini itaigiai ir profesionaliai. Visa tai suteikia kvintetui, 2002 m. pradedanciam švesti 25-eriu kurybines veiklos metu jubilieju, simfoniniam orkestrui budingo spalvingumo bei galios.Das litauische Akkordeonquintett
Im Jahre 1978 begann in Vilnius, der Hauptstadt der seinerzeitigen Litauischen Unionsrepublik der UdSSR, ein Akkordeonquintett seine Konzerttätigkeit.
Auf Initiative von Ricardas Sviackevicius hatte sich das Ensemble „Concertino“ gegründet, und unter seiner musikalischen und organisatorischen Leitung sollte es fortan eine einzigartige künstlerische Entwicklung nehmen.
Bereits von Beginn an bestand das Ensemble ausschließlich aus professionellen Musikern: Musikstudenten, Fachlehrern und Preisträgern nationaler und internationaler Wettbewerbe. Einige der Mitglieder wechselten im Laufe der Jahre, andere gehören dem Ensemble seit Beginn an. Heute sind es Ilma Plungaite, Regina Pancekauskiene, Žana Gumenaja, Rasa Mikiškiene und Ricardas Sviackevicius, die das Litauische Akkordeonquintett „Concertino“ darstellen.
Bereits zu Zeiten der Sowjetunion war das Ensemble mit den fünf Musikern im Bereich der Akkordeon- und Bajanmusik-Szene der bedeutendste und erfolgreichste Klangkörper im Baltikum, und auch innerhalb der zahlreichen Völker und Staaten der UdSSR mit ihren erstklassigen Musikern gehörte das Akkordeonquintett zu den Spitzenensembles. „Concertino“ gilt als einer der Begründer des Genre der Akkordeon-Kammermusik im Baltikum und ist heute - auch international - einer seiner vornehmlichsten Vertreter.
Bald nach seiner Gründung unternahm das Ensemble bereits Konzertreisen, zunächst durch die litauische Unionsrepublik, dann innerhalb der gesamten Sowjetunion und schließlich in die Staaten des sozialistischen Auslandes (1981 in die DDR, 1983 in die CSSR usw.)
Schon früh war die Gruppe im staatlichen Rundfunk und Fernsehen zu hören und zu sehen und hat dort im Laufe der Jahre eine Vielzahl von Aufnahmen gemacht. Sogar erste Schallplatten und Musik-Cassetten wurden zu sowjetischer Zeit produziert, die allerdings nur im Inland Verbreitung fanden.
Den internationalen Durchbruch erreichten die Musiker durch ihre Teilnahme als konzertierende Künstler an den Vogtländischen Musiktagen in Klingenthal, DDR, im Jahre 1986, als sie von dem jungen westdeutschen Musikproduzenten Ulrich Schmülling entdeckt wurden, der mit ihnen dann unmittelbar die erste Schallplattenproduktion im westlichen Ausland unternahm.
Das organisatorische Talent seines Leiters Ricardas Sviackevicius in Verbindung mit seinem hohen musikalisch-künstlerischen Anspruch beförderte das Ensemble nach der Auflösung der Sowjetunion bzw. nach der Entstehung des eigenständigen Staates, der Republik Litauen, mit seiner erklärten westlichen Orientierung in kurzer Zeit in zahlreiche Konzertsäle des westlichen Auslandes. Die Beliebtheit des Ensembles beim Publikum war einzigartig. Die fünf Litauer besuchten Deutschland, Italien, Frankreich bereits viele Male sowie auch Österreich, Niederlande, Belgien, Schweiz, Großbritannien, Finnland, Luxembourg und die Länder des europäischen Ostens. Sie spielten zu Konzerten und nahmen an Wettbewerben teil - stets mit überragendem Erfolg. Volle Konzertsäle und ein fasziniertes Publikum hinterließen sie überall dort, wo sie auftraten; herausragende 1. Preise wurden ihnen bei renommierten internationalen Wettbewerben zuerkannt (Premio Internazionale in Castelfidardo 1990, Alpenländisches Festival in Innsbruck 1992 usw.).
Im Repertoire des Ensembles finden sich viele bekannte Werke litauischer, russischer und weiterer ausländischer Komponisten aus verschiedenen Zeitepochen und von unterschiedlichem musikalischen Stil, die allesamt von Ilma Plungaite oder Ricardas Sviackevicius maßgeschneidert für das Quintett bearbeitet wurden. Allerdings sind es auch eine ganze Reihe von Originalwerken, die zum Repertoire des Ensembles gehören, die zum Teil von den zeitgenössischen Komponisten direkt für „Concertino“ geschrieben wurden und die von dem Ensemble mit besonderem Engagement propagiert werden. Gerade in der jüngeren Vergangenheit hat sich die Zusammenarbeit des Ensembles mit werkschaffenden Künstlern der Gegenwart intensiviert und eine weithin beachtete Resonanz gefunden. Vor allem die musikalische Individualität der Künstler mit ihren spezifischen Talenten und ihrer hohen künstlerischen Reife - subtiler Ton, tiefes stilistisches Verständnis, souveränes spieltechnisches Können - in Verbindung mit der Fähigkeit, als ein geschlossenes Ganzes überzeugend und professionell aufzutreten, zeichnen das Litauische Akkordeonquintett „Concertino“ aus und verleihen ihm die Vielfarbigkeit und Kraft eines sinfonischen Klangkörpers, das 2002 im 25. Jahr seines künstlerischen Schaffens steht.
